KPS Lower School’s first ever residential trip departed during the holidays to Vale do Lobo in Portugal for a tennis tour. 16 pupils were lucky enough to go on this incredibly exciting trip accompanied by Miss Gibson, Miss Street and Mr Frost. Away for five days and four nights, the pupils were hoping to improve their tennis skills, which is something they undoubtedly did! Pupils worked hard during the coaching sessions, which lasted for a minimum of three hours a day, with many of the pupils choosing to stay on court for even longer to really hone their skills. All of this training came to the fore when they competed in a fixture against Watford Grammar School for Boys. Split into three mini-competitions, the pupils competed against others of a similar standard. There were great performances throughout, especially given that for some, this was their first ever competitive tennis match. The final result was a 2-1 win for KPS! Romane and Niko were the champions in Group One and Timmy and Aaryan the champions in Group Two.

At the end of the trip the coaches chose Alexis as player of the tour for his positive attitude, energy and improvement over the course of the five days and he went home with a trophy. It must also be noted that all pupils were congratulated on their improvements by the coaching team.

Tennis wasn’t the only fun to be had on the trip. Free time and evenings were spent at the hotel pool, relaxing in the luxury apartments or playing games such as capture the flag on the beach. It was a tremendous way for the pupils to forge even deeper friendships and relax with one another in the Portuguese sun!

We are sure this will be the first of many tennis trips to come for KPS.
