KPS pupils try their hand at documentary filmmaking on a visit to the Imperial War Museum

On Monday 24th September, pupils from years 9, 10 and 11 headed off on a history trip to the Imperial War Museum.

The visit was part of the school’s wider programme to commemorate the centenary of the end of the First World War.

On arrival, pupils were given a tour of the First World War gallery and encouraged to reflect on different aspects of the war, sparking lengthy discussion.

Pupils then took part in a ‘Documentary Challenge’ workshop. This was an interactive experience where pupils took on the role of documentary filmmakers for SMASHtv, a (fictional) TV channel. The ‘filmmakers’ were tasked with exploring the First World War gallery to discover stories that were too important to be kept within its walls, to then create mini-documentaries from their findings.

All pupils took the challenge seriously and produced some very impressive work – we definitely have some future documentary filmmakers in the making! Well done to all for bringing history to life.
