We are delighted to have been awarded a FairAware award from Fairtrade. This is the first of three awards that can be granted to schools in recognition of them taking action to learn about Fairtrade and its values.

Our Geography teacher Miss Martin explains how KPS achieved the award:

During November and December, KPs pupils completed a Fairtrade learner audit online to discover the knowledge they already had about the organisation. After completing the quiz, they watched a clip to further explain the Fairtrade process. I also spoke to the catering staff to find out if the products we use for school lunches are Fairtrade, which they are, so the school does not need to change anything there!

Year 11 pupils then completed a Fairtrade project during a geography lesson. We discussed the economics of fair trade and the positives and negatives. They looked at global trade patterns to see why trade needed to be made fairer and wrote a summary of their findings to complete the series of lessons.

This term KPS will be working towards the next award, a FairActive Award, by planning events and assemblies focused on Fairtrade.
