Our GCSE and A Level art students visited the Royal Academy of Arts (RA) in Burlington Gardens to view the Titans of the Renaissance: Florence c. 1504 exhibition, featuring the works of Michelangelo, Leonardo, and Raphael.

The exhibition explored the rivalry between Michelangelo and Leonardo, and their influence on the younger rising star.

The exhibition included some of the finest examples of Renaissance artwork, including rare studies created by Leonardo and Michelangelo for the Palazzo Vecchio. It also featured Michelangelo’s unfinished early masterpiece, the Taddei Tondo, the only sculpture by the artist on view in the UK.

Students also explored the RA’s historic permanent collection, which includes a 16th-century copy of Leonardo’s Last Supper, alongside more recent works by Eileen Cooper OBE and Bob and Roberta Smith (Patrick Brill OBE RA).

Throughout the day, students gathered inspiration from paintings, classical sculpture, architecture and design to inform their own creative expression and artistic experimentation.
