Year 9 and 10 Geography students visited the beach at Walton-on-the-Naze on the Essex coast to complete their geography fieldwork. The students used their knowledge from the classroom to make predictions about the coastline and investigate the impact of coastal management on the landscape. They gathered a lot of data about the beach profile, racing against the incoming tide which was much higher than usual.

We were very lucky with the weather; the sun shone all day allowing us to eat lunch on the beach and have a quick game of Ultimate Frisbee. Over the coming weeks, students will be analysing their data and evaluating the success of their methods – all skills that will be required for the GCSE geography exam. As a reward for their hard work, and because no trip to the British coats is complete without it, we finished the day with a visit to the local ice cream stand.
